Outdoor Skate Basics or OSB
The Outdoor
Skate Basics are the Essential skating skills carefully
designed by Robichon's to prepare new and untrained skaters
for safe recreational and fitness skating outdoors.
The format contains 9 different stopping techniques!
In our safe and fun envirionment, you will learn
inline skate skills that increase your confidence, reduce your
fears, ensure your safety, maximize fitness benefits and allow
you to comfortably navigate everyday trail and road situations
with ease. The program is progressive. In each level offered,
we introduce and teach NEW proven moving, stopping/speed control,
turning and terrain negotiation techniques. When you master
all skills listed below you will be best prepared for our Marathon
Training Course and most other upper level courses. If you
ever wanted to begin to skate, master your fears, build confidence,
maximize your workout and / or skate with ease outdoors

OSB1 / Level 1-"Getting Started"
In "Getting Started", we introduce the essentials
of skater safety, balance, basic starting, stopping, turning
and terrain techniques. We highly recommend the OSB l and
2 for all new and untrained skaters. We use these skills as
a platform to manage new skills, trails and hills in most
to all next fun level courses.
Skill Ability Level: Pre-Skate and Beginner
Some Specific Skills:
- Movement: stride 1, full swizzle 1, stride swizzle 1 combo,
- Stopping and Speed Control: heel stop 1 (low speeds),
- Turning: A - Frame Turn 1 (L & R),
- Terrain: gear checks, defensive falling and skate position,
standing still, getting up, The Stabilizer.

OSB 2/ Level 2 - " Getting
Started Cont'd" In OSB 2, we review, refine
and build off skills from Level 1. In level 2, begin the next
fun level skills!
Skill Ability Level: Beginner
Some Specific Skills:
- Movement: full swizzle 1 (vary its size and speed), full
swizzle 2 (propulsive swizzle) and 3 (resistive swizzle),
- Stopping and Speed Control: heel stop 2 (moderate speeds),
heel pump stop, grass stop
- Turning: Y-frame turn 1 (vary its size, shape and speed).
linked Y-frame turns, Y-frame turn 2 (gliding) and a-frame
turn 3 (braking),
- Terrain: safe hop and side step (up or down)

OSB 3/ Level 3 - " Feelin'
Kinda' Rolly In Level 3, we develop stride
efficiency, speedy stops and maneuverability.
Skill Ability Level: Advanced Beginner
Some Specific Skills:
- Movement: 1/2 swizzles (L & R), ½ swizzle linked
(sculling),
- Stopping and Speed Control: heel stop 3 (Higher speeds),
quick stops
- Turning: parallel turns 1 (L & R).
- Terrain: knee slide, teeter totter (step over or up obstacles)

OSB4/ Level 4 - "Putting It
All Together" In Level 4 we "put it all
together'. We begin ski turns (great for downhill skiers),
skating in Stride 2 (efficient skating and greater fitness
benefits) and then introduce you to next level skills in Cool
Moves.
Skill Ability Level: Beginning Intermediate
Specific Skills:
- Movement: Scooters (L & R), Stride 2
- Stopping and Speed Control: T- Drag, Inward Glide Stop,
Inward Glide Step Stop
- Turning: parallel turns 1 (vary its size, shape and speed),
linked parallel turns (Ski Turns)., braking and gliding
ski turns.
- Terrain: Skipping and Leaping, Trail Stride 2, Drafting
Basics, Anticipation, Communication, Speed as Your Friend
